Brief Answer:
Multi triggered wheeze and given suggestions

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

It looks like a viral illness. What I mean by playing with other kids is - while he is active. By what you say I feel that he has multi triggered wheeze.

My suggestions are:-

1. Inhalers are the newest management strategies for this. If I were your paediatrician I would have suggested the use of Budecort metered dose inhaler (100mcg) 2 puffs twice a day through a spacer and this is for regular use for 8 weeks. Another metered dose inhaler is Levolin and this can used as rescue therapy whenever the kid is having severe cough in spite of regular usage of Budecort. The technique is very important and very crucial for the drug to be delivered correctly to the lungs. Regularity of medicine usage also matters a lot. Do not discontinue abruptly after you notice some improvement. The technique of administering an inhaler using a spacer has to be taught to you by your doctor and these are prescription medicines. So I suggest you consult your pediatrician for this.

2. Triggers can be environmental changes/ dust/ talcum powder/ seasonal changes/ un-cleaned a/c vents/ cold weather etc....we can specifically say this is the cause - unless we observe the kid closely - best person is the parent.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time.

Wish your kid good health.

Okay Sir,

Thanks for your detailed answer. Can You please tell me is that antibiotic (Advent Drops) gonna help in reducing mucus. How long we should gave this medicine including that Zerotuss XP drops (Ambroxol, Guaifenesin and Levosalbutamol).
There is summer here so can inhale steam gonna help on this? Is there any serious thing to which we should worry or its normal? How long we expect that cough will be completely gone?

Thanks & Regards

Brief Answer:
Answers to the questions on cough

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Coming to your queries one by one:-

1. Advent is an antibiotic and is not going to be useful in a viral illness like this. Rather it might cause antibiotic resistance and so I suggest that you stop it.

2. Combination medicines for better avoided in such young babies. I suggest you give only plain Levosalbutamol which is available as Levolin syrup at the doors of 2.5 ml 3 times a day for 3 days.
But this is a prescription medicine and you will require a doctor's prescription for it.

3. Steam inhalation will aggravate the problem by causing irritation to the lower breathing tubes.

4. This is a normal reason due to seasonal problem you need not worry about this.

5. This might take 7 to 10 days to completely settle down.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello Sir,

Thanks for this great advice, We will surely consider this. One last question, how the chest congestion then clears up? Is levolin syrup clears that out.

Thanks Again
