Brief Answer:

She might need higher sedative drugs.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

So your mother is having insomnia. Alprazolam is for mild insomnia.

For moderate to severe insomnia, there are many higher sedative drugs are available.

So better to consult a psychiatrist and get done prescription for diazepam or lorazepam or Zolpidem.

She might be having associated depression or anxiety or mood disorder which is causing insomnia.

So psychiatrist evaluation is needed.

Please let me know:

1. Has she ever consulted to a psychiatrist?
2. Is she obese? I am asking this to rule out sleep apnea.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
