Are Doxycycline And Ceftin Right Medication For Tonsillitis?
Question: My boyfriend, who has been my only sexual partner for two years, likely was infected with chlamydia and/or gonorreah recently.
I have been tested for stds twice since we began dating and have been std free both times. I was unaware he had sex with anyone other than me (until he told me yesterday.)
He saw his primary physician yesterday who took urine and blood for testing, said to expect 3 days for results, and treated him with an injection (bf was not sure what the drug was - assuming an antibiotic) and a prescription of 4 azithromicin to take together one time.
I now know:
His symptoms were urinary frequency and burning, low back pain, feeling generally unwel, with a constant dull headache, body aches, and fatigue - all beginning five days prior to his visit to doctor.
Around the time he began feeling sick: I developed a sore throat with pus on tonsils, body aches, lower abdominal discomfort and irritation when urinating.
Not knowing he had any UTI or std symptoms at all - only that he felt very sick - I decided I likely had tonsillitis. I did not connect my other symptoms to infected tonsils - but rather a UTI, as I get these a few times per year. Therefore the UTI symptoms weren't worrisome for me.
I had two antibiotics on file at my pharmacy, and chose to fill the RX Ceftin 250mg taken x 2 daily - as treatment for tonsillitis.
I am now on day 3 of the pills and have taken 5 250 mg ceftin pills total.
My throat feels better but completely not clear yet. My other symptoms persist.
If one has been exposed to these stds:
I would like to know if it is generally appropriate treatment to begin taking doxycycline 100mg x 2 per day for 10 days along with a x 2 daily regimen of ceftin? (For treatment of both stds mentioned.)
Or
Is it a safer alternative to begin doxycycline 100mg x 2 daily and discontinue the ceftin today - having taken 1250 mg over the past 2.5 days?
I would greatly appreciate any answers you have in reference to my questions.

Thank you very much for your advice. That was precisely what I needed to know. Will see my internist for testing as soon as possible as well for testing. And absolutely will only practice safe sex w him... If ever again at all.

Hi again.
You're welcome.
You've made the right decision to consult a doctor, both, to clear your initial doubt and then to see an internist. Very good.
Always ensure, your health isn't compromised.
