Are HIV Elisa Tests Reliable?
Question: I tested for HIV1 and HIV2 antibody test at 6 weeks and the 6 month through Elisa test method both came out negative, just that I got the result within 2 hours does that mean I should now stop worrying? My concern is that the results come out within 2 hours. It is fine? Waiting For your reply. Thanks

Hi,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.
Thanks for posting your query.
Window period for HIV is within 12 weeks after the risky contact. So your non-reactive HIV ELISA done 6 months after the exposure is highly reliable. Almost all the HIV tests available in the market are highly reliable to the extent of 97 % or more. So you are free from HIV infection and not to worry about the same. You can very well get the report within 2 hours.

Thanks a lot Doctor! I feel so relieved. I have been stressing myself for the last 6 months after I had unprotected sex with a friend, the thoughts of HIV took over me so much that I started seeing , hearing it everywhere be it banners, radio commercials in fact it took its toll so much on me I wasn't even believing the reports I felt life was trying to tell me something. But thanks to you're immediate reply today I fee relived and I think the government ads are a great awareness for us youngsters and my prejudice towards HIV has surely gone! Thank you sir! Thank you god! :)
