intralesional steroid injection is the treatment of choice
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.
I have read your query. I understand your concern.
In alopecia barbae, the treatment of choice is intralesional injection of steroid guven every 3 weeks till complete hair growth is seen in the patch. Usually 4-5 injections are required for complete cure. This is considered as the safest and best mode of treatment. The results are achieved in minimum possible duration. I prefer to advise my such patients intralesional steroid injection along with topical mildoto moderate potency Steroid cream like mometasone/ clobetasone. In most of the cases, nothing else is required.
In non responding cases, stimulants like folica hair tincture can be added.
In cases where patches appear recurrently and do not respond to above mentioned modalities, consideration is given to start oral steroids or immunomodulators like levamisole/ Dicaris.
Your doctor has given you a good prescription. You may continue with it.
The protocol for treatment of certain diseases is different in different countries so the treatment may vary according to the place. You may discuss my opinion with your doctor. He may give you intralesional injections for faster results.
I am sure that he would agree with this.
I hope it helps.
Take care.
