Are Tridot Tests Reliable For Detection Of HIV?
Question: High doctor,
I am living under severe anxiety for HIV even after carrying out following testing. Here is the background,
I had brief vaginal sex once with a lady in her late 40s married housewife with no background of other relationships and in good health. I developed a phobia ever since and even after her repeated assurance that she is not HIV went and tested twice with TRIDOT rapid HIV screening test at 14 days and 29 days and both tests are non reactive. I am aware HIV antibody takes longer in some cases and TRIDOT being a gen 2 test with only detection of IgG antibody these tests were just on the border line of the window period . There is too much contradiction in the internet about the correct time for antibody detection and hence my misery. I have had no symptoms except that I developed lot of stress and anxiety thinking of this and got itching and small pimples on hands which come off and on which disappear in less than a day. This though about potential HIV is driving me crazy.
Also wanted to add I had a unprotected sex about 10 years back and have tested thrice in the last 10 years at 30 days, 90 days and then after 9 years with 2nd gen antibody test in XXXXXXX all of which came negative.
I have no major health issues except that I am living with anxiety and BP issues since last 7 years. No major illness infact little or no fever in last 5 years. I have had no physical contact with anyone else apart from my wife who is completely clean and HIV free.
I know it's a long winded question but a response would be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are unlikely to be due to HIV.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM
All the tests for HIV including Tridot test are highly reliable to the extent of more than 97% after the window period.
Your symptoms are not related to HIV infection.
Window period for HIV is within 12 weeks after the risky contact.
So rule out HIV infection by having a HIV test 12 weeks after exposure and relax.

what is the reliability of the TRIDOT test at 29 days? does that give me some direction untill I wait for 12 weeks? thanks for your answer.
Brief Answer:
Tridot test within the window period has no value.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
HIV Tridot test can detect antibodies against HIV.
Antibodies against HIV can appear only after the window period. Window period for HIV infection is 6-8 weeks, may be delayed upto 12 weeks with certain individuals in the presence of an infection.
So Tridot test 29 days after the risky contact has no value.

is there a test I can do now at day 36 to ascertain the status than wait for 12 weeks such as a P24 Antigen. + Antibody test combo. thanks for you help.
Brief Answer:
HIV DNA PCR or qualitative RNA PCR test can detect HIV 1 infection
Detailed Answer:

Your HIV Tridot test can detect the antibodies in the presence of HIV infection.

HIV DNA PCR or qualitative RNA PCR tests are highly reliable to the extent of 98%and above 4 weeks after the exposure . But this can detect only HIV 1 infection. Quantitative RNA PCR for HIV 2 infection is available with one or two Laboratories separately whereas antibody detection tests can detect both.
HIV 1 is more prevalent than the HIV 2 infection throughout the world except certain parts of XXXXXXX to the extent of 99 %.
