Are A Reddish Purple Region On The Leg And Increasing Bleeding Capillaries Underneath Her Very Swollen Legs And Feet Curable In An Elderly Patient?

Question: My mother has multiple myeloma. She is 92 and was unable to get a bone marrow transplant. She has been treated by oncologist first with radiation and tablets, Velcade. She has had a marvelous five year remission until about 8 months ago, but still getting meds and fighting. Recently she collapsed and transported to hospital where she had a stent put in a pinched tube to a kidney. Doctors also discovered a cloudy mass of infection in her kidney and have had her on a strong antibiotic. Upon leaving hospital, we moved her to graduated living with health assistance place. 5 days in she has developed reddish purple break on her leg. Prior to this she had developed, post-op, increasing bleeding capillaries underneath her very swollen legs and feet. I am her daughter and want to find her the best care, but I am not sure what this is and what doctor should I call. Any light shed on this would be most appreciative. My mother has been active and vital all her life and wants to live as long as possible. Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to ecchymosis
Detailed Answer:
Hi
After hearing your mothers history since she is having multile myeloma and has undergone treatment including chemotherapy and radiation the reddish purple break marks in her leg is due to ecchymosis
These are caused by discoloration caused by the escape of blood into the tissues from ruptured blood vessels.
She can apply of ice locally on the area.
But if it still persists then corticosteroid group of drugs are needed to treat this condition.
You need to consult a haematologist.
