Are Abdominal And Pelvic Pain Symptoms Of UTI?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: I'm 19 and I didn't have any of the common symptoms of a UTI (no pain urinating or frequently needing to urinate) so it really didn't cross my mind, but I went to the doctor with abdominal aches and pelvic pain which had been going on for a good month, he examined my abdomen and said it all felt normal and he took a urine sample and said there was some infection in it. He gave me antibiotics (Trimethoprim) which I started yesterday, but basically since I got back from the doctor yesterday afternoon I have have aches in my upper leg that spreads to as far as my knees, and I was not sure if this is just due to the UTI? The pain came before I first took the antibiotic, it comes and goes. Thanks

Brief Answer:
This pain is not related to URI and probably not suggestive of a disease!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully. There are episodes of UTI without the classical signs of frequent urination in small quantities. I will suggest you carry on with the medications as testing suggest that you have an infection. remember to drink much water as this helps in cleansing the urinary passages and promoting healing.

The pain you have reported is very non specific and not suggestive of an infection or any other disease condition. My thinking is that it needs no specific medical attention and would resolve spontaneously. This would happen pretty quickly. I will recommend that you don't get worried about this. Be calm and all would be okay.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
