Are Bifocal Glasses Required After A Cataract Surgery?
Question: Hi, I had cataract surgery in my left eye about 9 months ago and I have 20/20 vision, and my doctor told me that I still need to purchase a pair of bifocal glasses? Why after spending all this money in surgery, and now he wants me to spend the same amount as I have in the past with my frames? Isnt this overkill? I just need a pair of reading glasses, and wanted to see if I can just buy a cheap pair from Krogers?

Brief Answer:
You probably can do with reading glasses alone
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Intraocular lenses implanted during cataract surgery are generally not multifocal. After cataract surgery you lose the capacity to change your focus from near to far or in between while looking at an object. Hence bifocal lenses are advocated. But it is not essential and if you already have a 20/20 vision chances are that you can do without it. Reading glasses may be used if required. You can verify this from your doctor.
Hope that helps.
