Question: Hello. I was diagnosed with pneumonia just before Christmas and hospitalized. It as my right lower lung and it had partially collapsed. Finally last week I started to feel better and yesterday, started to feel cold symptoms coming on. I am 48,generally healthy, 5"10" and 155 lbs. Should I be concerned? I just had back surgery 10/31 and developed bronchitis two weeks after . Then pneumonia. I am over it! Thanks for any advice you can give.

Brief Answer:
It might a viral infection but watch the signs of pneumonia

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.

I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
Pneumonia is an important infection and needs proper treatment and care. Sometimes it might take a few weeks for the patient to feel almost back to normal. It is good you are feeling better already.
You do not explain much your new symptoms but if you are having nose congestion, sore throat and cough this might be due to a viral infection. Fever might also be due to a viral infection but should not last longer than 3 full days.

If you develop fever for more than 3 days or feel very tired or short of breath, or chest pain or bring up bloody secretions; any of those you will need to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Meanwhile make sure you rest, drink well, and if you are smoking it is necessary to quit.

I hope this is helpful and answers to your question.

Kind regards

Dr Antoneta Zotaj
