Are Delayed Periods A Sign Of Pregnancy Despite Being On Duphaston?
I am a 26 yo woman, never had a problem with my periods and my cycles were regular and neat.
It has been 50 days that i didnt have my period. I wen to a gynecologist, did blood tests and hormones tests.
I am not pregnant (as far as the blood test says) ; my hormones are fine and the gyneco prescribed Duphaston for 5 days.
I stopped last Friday and till date didnt have my period.
I am kind of worried, i have a very bloated tummy, sometimes sharp pain and i gained more than 5 kilos despite me maintaining the same diet and workout trend i always have.
I have couple of questions please i hoped you would be able to assist me with:
1- Could the blood test results be somehow wrong if the test was done at a specific time around ovulation and maybe i am pregnant?
2- Why didnt i have so far the period? does that mean something is wrong with the ovaries?
3- Should i consult another gyneco?
4- What is the main cause for the weight gain?
5- What are your recommendation?
Thank you so much in advance.
Not pregnant
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
1. The reports are confirmatory of the fact that you are not pregnant status.
No, the levels of hormones are not grossly changed if the tests are done around ovulation.
2. Periods can start upto 7 days after stopping the duphastone , so you can wait for 3-4 days more.
If no periods still, there can be some pathology in the uterine lining like infection or adhesions.
3. You can consult another doctor after 7-10 days.
4. Weight gain can be due to sedentary lifestyle etc apart from hormonal disturbance.
5.I will suggest you to wait for the periods for another week.
If not there, then an ultrasound should be done to measure the endometrial thickness.
Further treatment should be done accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
