Are Different Sleeping Pattern Followed With Drinking Milk In An Infant Normal?

My son who is 20 days old sometimes be awake only after 3 hours for a feed and sometimes wakes up every hour. Sometimes he drinks whole 30 ml of milk and sometimes less or more than that. Can you please explain why he is doing so
Don't worry if weight gain is proper and otherwise there are no symptoms
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
I can understand your concern.During first few days many babies may go to sleep after taking only a few sucks on the bottle or breast. Most of the babies sleep during the day time and they wake up during the night. This sleep cycle gets normalized by the age of 4-5 months They should be kept aroused during feed by tickling on soles and behind the ears but it should not be carried to the point of annoyance or discomfort.
The adequate feeding of baby can be assessed by frequency of urine(4-6 times/day) and weight gain of the baby.
The amount of milk intake should be around 100-150 ml/kg/day.The amount of milk intake may vary from feed to feed.
I won't get worried if other wise baby is active, feeding well, passing urine 4-6 times a day and is gaining weight properly.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more queries.
Thanks and regards
