Posted on Tue, 19 Dec 2023
Question: I have my FSH & LH numbers for the last 4 years. I'm wondering if I am post menopause and safe to not use birth control any longer. I have not had a period for 9 cycles. My numbers are as follows:
2015 FSH 40.0 LH less than15
2016 FSH 53.2 LH less than 15
2017 FSH 45.3 LH 16.1
2018 FSH 62.4 LH 13.4

Brief Answer:

You can wait for three more months.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

When a woman's FSH blood level is consistently elevated to 30 mIU/mL or higher, and she has not had a menstrual period for a year, it is generally accepted that she has reached menopause.

In women, past menopause LH levels are 15.9 to 54.0 IU/L.
Your LH levels are normal but FSH is on a higher side. LH levels are late to rise in menopause.

You can wait for 3 more months and in case there are no periods for one year then you can safely stop using any kind of birth control.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
