Question: hi, I'm 28 year old Male. I have been diagnosed with Generlized Anxiety about 5 years ago. I have been on 20 mg of paxil for them 5 years. I am constantly worrying about my health. I will go a month or so and be fine then something triggers it and I am worrying about it. Most of my worrys seem to be like brain tumors and serious conditions. I had 2 MRIs in the past 5 years of my head both coming back normal. I have had blood work many of times also, all comes back normal. I work a swing shift job where I work 12 hours dayshift for 3 days then have 2 days off and work 2 nights. and back and forth. But I find myself sleeping a lot also. I can sleep for 12 hours or so no problem. i dont know if it's because I'm depressed from constantly worrying about my health or what is wrong. when I'm feeling good i have no problems waking up and being active but lately i have been dizzy and lightheaded. so i have been worrying and just not wanting to do anything but sleep. I'm just wondering what your take is on all this. thank you.

Brief Answer:

It is most likely due to anxiety.

Detailed Answer:

Hello!

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to inform you that generalised anxiety disorder can present with variety of symptoms and every symptom described above can be explained on the basis of diagnosis of generalised anxiety disorder.

I can argue that period of normalcy in between (lasting for months) almost rules out possibility of brain tumour as there is no decrease in symptoms once the brain tumor developed.

In addition with two MRI I am 100 % sure about the absence of brain tumours as current MRI machines can detect even minute tutors leave aside the large tutors causing symptoms.

In my opinion it is most important to keep yourself busy as far as possible and develop self strategies to manage anxiety. I often recommend deep breathing exercises, meditation and yoga for complete relief from symptoms.

I hope this helps you.
