Are Fish Oil Supplements Necessary During Pregnancy?
Question: Hi Dr Koregol
A big thank you for all your help with my questions.
I haven't been taking fish oil supplements so far during my pregnancy. I have been taking my prenatal with folic acid and calcium and Vitamin D supplements. I have heard now that it is important to take fish oil while pregnant! I had been worried about mercury and didn't realise it was so important to take it. Has my baby been missing something crucial or do babies brains still develop normally? When is the most important part of fetal brain development during gestation?
I am 18 weeks tomorrow.

Brief Answer:
Fish oil supplements not necessary
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Fish oil supplements are not necessary . You don't need to take them. They are just additional option only.
Your baby's brain would have developed by now. Hence taking these medicines won't make much difference. Don't worry about supplements. Your baby will have normal brain development without the fish supplements also.
Everything is normal. Don't worry.
