Are Frequent Abdominal Scans Advisable For Diagnosis Of Gallbladder Polyps?
Please give details and post actual reports.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.
Noted that you have consulted a Doctor, who has advised for scan every 3 to 6 weeks for having two hyperechoic GB polyps of 6 mm size.
Wants to know: (Do I need to go for whole abdomen scan for every 6 months or how frequently I have to go for scan.)
To answer this query I would like to know additional few details, that will help us to have fruitful discussions:
- Why was the scan done at the age of 30 - I mean what were the symptoms that the scan was asked for?
- Which scan was done - Ultrasonography and/or CT scan/MRI?
- Do you have any other associated medical problems?
Please post the scanned copy of your scan reports so that I can read the whole report to understand the findings better.
Also post any other reports that must have been done.
And please let me know the opinion of your Doctor - Was he Gastroenterologist of General Surgeon.
This is very important as the size of 6 mm - one of the borderlines that is deciding factor in gall bladder polyps.
1) I went for health check up on jan-2015 and in Ultrasonography it was found.
then the Gastroenterologist suggested to have follow up scan after six months which I had on Jun-2105 and again the result was same size was 5.5 mm
2) Scan was Ultrasonography whole abdomen
3) No other problems but family does. My father is diagnosed with Liver cancer, HCV positive my mother also has HCV. Other include BP, sugar, Asthma for my father
I am attaching the medical scan I had on Jan-2015
Every 6 months- Ultrasonography of the whole abdomen.
Detailed Answer:
Sincere thanks for your feedback.
Noted your family history and the reports of XXXXXXX 2015.
The ultrasonography done in XXXXXXX is showing the gall bladder polyps of 5.5 mm, we can say for practical purposes that it is stationary.
Since the size of 6 mm is a border after which the suspicion of getting transformed into cancer rises, I would advise you to go for follow-up ultrasonography scan of the whole abdomen every 6 months.
There are many schools of thoughts because the further developments can not be predicted in such cases in spite of continuous research and comparative studies going on.
I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further queries if you need to or if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
