Are Hiccups A Side Effect Of Taking The Diprophos Injection?
Hiccups has been reported as a side effect(though rarely) of dipophos.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health Care Magic.
My name is Dr Muhammad Ahmad & i will look into your problem.
I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way.
CAN IT BE SIDE EFFECT?:
Yes it can be a side effect of diprophos , rarely but surely it has been reported by patients who took diprophos injection for joint and orthopaedic issues.
How much time can it take:
According to a research conducted by Department of medicine Carmel Medical Centre,in which patients having hiccups following betamethasone injection (diprophos) were observed.
Hiccups lasted from 1 to 10 days; in some days it was self-limited and in others required regular anti-hiccup treatment with good response. In two cases, regional injection was repeated followed by recurrence of hiccups. Recurrent hiccups were severe; in one case lasted for 2 weeks and in the other necessitated admission to the hospital.
What to expect:
It may take some days if this is for the first time, if it is recurrent then more time may be required for hiccups to subside.
What can be done:
HOME REMEDIES:
1) Swallow something sweet
2) drink water in continuous stream not letting the stream to break for 45 seconds to 1 minute at-least.
3)-Some times sour things help.
4)- Some people get cured by peanut butter.
5)-Sipping some hot sauce.
6) Honey can help.
7) Bitter chocolate is also considered effective.
8) Brown bag 'em.
Breathe slowly and deeply into a small paper bag. (Stop if you feel light-headed.) This increases the carbon dioxide level in the blood and makes the diaphragm contract more deeply to bring in more oxygen, which may stop the spasms.
9)
Chew up some dill.
Here's a simple, pleasant-tasting trick: Slowly chew a teaspoon of dill seeds. This traditional cure may work because swallowing the seeds stimulates the Vagus nerve to make the hiccups stop.
Medical Treatment:
Here i will also mention medical treatment for hiccups if home remedies end up futile, your doctor will know about these.
1-Various agents have been reported to cure hiccups. Of these, chlorpromazine is the most thoroughly studied and appears to be the drug of choice.
2-Haloperidole.
3-Metoclopramide,
4-Several anticonvulsant agents have been used to treat intractable hiccups. Phenytoin, valproic acid, and carbamazepine have all been effective when used.
5-
Other agents reported to be beneficial are as follows:
-Muscle relaxants
-Sedatives
-Analgesics
-Stimulants .
I would suggest you not to be anxious and consider treatment options , discussing with your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
