Are Intensely Itchy Red Ringed Patches Under The Leg A Concern?
Tinea cruris
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
You have a fungal infection (Tinea Cruris). It presents as ring shaped lesion with red, raised expanding margin and central clearing. The surface is dry and scaly. Itching is a prominent symptom. Body folds like groin, axilla, belt area, sub-mammary area and buttocks are the sites that are commonly involved.
I would suggest you to keep the groin folds dry by using an antifungal dusting powder e.g., Clotrimazole 1% dusting powder (Abzorb) and also apply a topical antifungal like luliconazole 1% cream (Lulifin cream), twice daily for 4-6 weeks. Usually I also recommend an oral antifungal e.g either Itraconazole or Terbinafine for 4-6 weeks too, in my patients of Tinea Cruris. In addition to all this you may take an oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10mg tablet once daily for symptomatic relief from itching. These are all prescription drugs and I advise you to kindly talk to your general practitioner for a prescription of the same.
