Are Irregular Bowel Movements In A New Born Normal?
Question: Hi dr,
I am nursing 1 month 10 days old baby girl. She skips a day or two and then goes for motion. Is this normal? She is totally breast fed. When she doesn't pee she passes lot of gas and undergoes a disturbed sleep. She keeps waking up every 15-20 mins. I try to sooth her in different ways but at times can't cope to her restlessness. Please suggest what can be done to improve the situation.

Brief Answer:
Normal or having pain abdomen
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM.
Can understand your concerns.
A 1 month baby can pass 5 to 6 stools per day or may pass stool once in 5 days, both these things are normal.
But the main thing is that baby should not be irritable.
I think that your baby has pain abdomen and passing lot of gas when he does not passes stools.
In my opinion, you should give
- colicaid drops 3 drops three times a day for 2 drops
This will help in relieving pain abdomen and passing stools.
I hope this will help you.
Take care.
