Are Irregular Heartbeat Episodes Serious?

Posted on Wed, 13 Nov 2024
Question: Hi I am 22 years old female. I have had heart palpitations since I had my daughter 1 year ago. They feel like a flip flopping in my chest. I get them at least once a day and then I can go a week without having them. I do get anxiety easily but I’m worried it’s skmething else and the thought of a doctor scares me. I am on labetalol 100 mg for high blood pressure. They also occur out of nowhere. Should I worry? Or will they go away on their own?

Brief Answer:
I would recommend performing some tests.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Welcome and thank you for your query.

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that it is important performing some tests to investigate for the possible causes underlying your symptoms.

In this regard, I would recommend consulting with your doctor and performing these tests:

- a cardiac ultrasound to examine your heart function and structure
- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to investigate for possible cardiac arrhythmia
- complete blood count for anemia
- thyroid hormone levels for possible dysfunction
- blood electrolyte level imbalances
- vitamin D levels for a possible deficiency.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,
