Are Jaundice And Liver Failure Hereditary?
I am having jaundice of as 1.6 mg/dl, its increasing as 3 months back 1.3 mg/dl.
My father also died because of the liver failure which started from Jaundice is this hereditary problem or what?
I also have small hernia in stomach.
My father never drink alcohol and no smoking and same for me no smoking and drinking.
What precautions should I take and do I need to start taking doctor advice and medicines.
Few baseline tests should be done before drawing a conclusion.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting us.
Total bilirubin levels less then 3mg/dl has no clinical significance specially when patient is totally asymptomatic.
Secondly you have not mentioned your liver function results involving enzymes like SGOT,SGPT,GGT and ultrasound abdomen.
Lastly apart from total bilirubin i would like to know result of direct and indirect bilirubin.
So for a good and professional advice to a young person like you i would firstly suggest you to go for proper baseline tests.Once we have the results we can analyse them and give you a proper suggestion.
Test
Liver function tests
Serum direct and indirect bilirubin
ultrasound upper abdomen(Hepatobiliary system).
These baseline tests would give us a clear picture and we could proceed as per the results.
Giving you a lame advice just on basis of subclinical levels of total bilirubin is not a good option.
In case you have any genetic anomaly like gilberts etc these test would show them.
So dont panic.Get these basic tests done at a good lab and follow up with reports. It would hardly take a day to get results of these tests.
Hernia has nothing to do with it.
Just go through these tests and revert back.
Thank you.
Greetings and thanks for suggestions, I have uploaded LFT and KFT reports for you.
Further I have misplaced my Ultrasound report, to be specific in that report it was small hernia in abdomen and fatty liver.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again and thanks for follow up,
Your liver function tests are normal.
Mild elevation of bilirubin is very likely due to fatty liver diagnosed on ultrasound.
I would suggest you to take-
Sylimarin(milk of thistle) 1 capsule once daily-Its a potent liver rejenuvator and would help your liver from mild loses due to fat accumulation).
Tab Liv 52 one tablet once daily.
Follow a high carbohydrate and lean protein based diet.
In easy language replace all whites with brown for eg
white rice from brown rice,White bread from brown bread....Our goal is to take complex carbohydrates with low glycemic index.
They should be 60% of your diet
Along with it take lean proteins like egg white fish and chicken breast 25% of diet.
Heathy fats like PUFA and MUFA should form around 15% of diet.
Start exercising 40 minutes a day.
You would be fine in a month or two.
