Are Lucent Lesions On The Bone Indicative Of Multiple Myeloma?
Question: I was referred to a hematologist after my MRI showed small osseous lucenies, so multiple myeloma can't be excluded. (This was a followup to a CT scan for diviticulitis.). Does this mean that I most likely have multiple myeloma?
Brief Answer:
hello dear. No it doesnot mean myeloma
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. So just having osseous lucencies does not mean you have myeloma. For a diagnosis of myeloma you must have some more test and fullfill the criteria for active disease. You require following tests
Serum protein electrophoresis
Serum calcium
liver function tests including serum proteins
free light chain assay
Please revert back with these reports
Thanks and regards

Brief Answer:
It depends upon the lesion
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear.
There is an entity called plasmacytoma in which all other tests are negative. It can be picked only by biopsy of the lesion. Or sometimes there is non-secretory myeloma in which only marrow is positive.
Then a marrow biopsy is indicated. It's complex for you but only the physician who is closely examining you can decide exactly.
Still, in my opinion, I'd again say, it doesn't look like myeloma. But tests need to be done to rule out that.
Thanks and regards
Brief Answer:
Hello. As you do not have any symptoms.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. Its because you do not have any symptom of bony pains, any fracture, no history of repeated infections, protein electrophoresis is normal and merely bony lucencies which can be anything else too.
Hence i donot think you have myeloma.
Thanks and regards
