Are Persistent Back Pain, Weakness, Dizziness And Nausea Signs Of Kidney Infection?
The symptoms haven't subsided at all and slight dizziness has started, as well as pain in the right side of her back and lower abdomen towards the groin.
Should she go back to the doctors tomorrow or seek further advice today somewhere?
kidney infection?
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
perhaps there is a misunderstanding? Kidney infection cannot be treated for 3 days only. Perhaps a bladder infection was diagnosed (cystitis) ? Flank pain radiating to the abdomen and groin can be caused by urinary tract obstruction. A renal colic is possible. Renal colics are typically accompanied by nausea and dizziness. The pain is usually pretty severe and makes the patient want to move all the time in a hopeless effort to find a comfortable position. Besides the above, kidney infection means high fever. You haven't mentioned fever...
So in conclusion I believe that reassessment is important. In a patient with suspected renal colic or upper urinary tract infection I would have asked for an ultrasound scan unless the diagnosis of an uncomplicated infection was certain.
Has she done any tests? Can you upload the reports?
other tests?
Detailed Answer:
Has she done a uninalysis or urine culture?
Cystitis usually causes frequency, urgency and a constant feeling that the bladder is full even right after voiding. Sometimes lower abdominal pain is present. A simple urinalysis is enough to get the necessary clues: white blood cells, nitrates, etc.
Absence of nitrates and white blood cells in the urine specimen puts the diagnosis of cystitis in doubt.
Kind Regards!
the urinalysis would be helpful anyway
Detailed Answer:
The urinalysis would be helpful for both upper and lower urinary tract infections. If the patient has fever which means upper urinary tract infection, confirmation with urinalysis is important.
