Are Red Blotches Behind The Right Knee A Cause For Concern?
Question: Hello Dr.
I have been experiencing red blotches behind my right knee for several years. They were approximately the size of a dime/nickel/quarter. They start out as red blotches, never itchy, but always hot to the touch and often raised higher than my unaffected skin, tender to the touch and then become purplish in colour and bruised. They used to fade away over a few days, but more recently (@18 months) these blotches are more plentiful, much larger, extremely tender always behind the right knee, now appear on my two thighs, and small outbreak on my belly below my left rib cage, near the bellybutton. These rashes are causing discomfort and unable to wear shorts, skirts and other clothing that falls to the knee. Can you help me?

Thank you for your speedy response. I appreciate your time. I just uploaded/sent just a few pictures of more recent outbreaks on the backside of my right knee. Since contacting you my right leg "welts" have uncharacteristically spread down my leg more than the more severe picture shows. Also, a large irregular shaped circle has blossomed on the top of my right thigh along with several smaller spots on the top of my left thigh.
I hope these pictures help clarify any uncertainty surrounding my medical condition.

I have gone through your picture, based on that I feel it might be contact dermatitis or heat rash. But a closer examination is required.
Presently I would suggest you to avoid touching it, wash the affected area with cool water and dermadew soap and tap it dry. Ice bags or cool wet compresses may be helpful . I would suggest you to apply calamine lotion with alovera, it will produce soothing effect. If this doesn't help you may require typical steroid cream, but I would recommend you to see dermatologist for examination.
