As a routine screening test
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Ultra-screen test is recommended for pregnant women during first trimester to detect chromosomal abnormalities like Down syndrome, trisomy 18.
It is a combination of two tests:
-Blood test to detect free beta HCG ( beta human chorionic gonadotropin) and PAPP-A (pregnancy associated plasma protein-A)
-Ultrasound to detect nuchal translucency.
It is said to be having almost 90% accuracy in detecting above chromosomal abnormalities.
Your wife can undergo this as a routine screening test. It will not cause any harm to mother or baby.
Hope I have answered your query. I will be available to answer followup queries. If you are satisfied with the response, please give your review at the end of the discussion.
Take care.
