Are Severe Headache In The Left Side, Sensitivity To Light, Nasal Congestion In The Morning Signs Of Migraine?
Question: Hi Doctor, Last Wednesday, I had severe pain in left side of my head and I was not able to bear the lights in the room and it continue until next morning as it declined gradually and there was still uneasiness on left side of head for whole day. I am also having morning cold and I feel my nostrils are block in morning and it gradually improves as the day progresses.
Before this whenever I had headache ( full head) it primarily due to two reasons, one dehydrations and second undigested of food in stomach and it use to get over after single vomit. But this time it was quite different and its effects continued for another day as well, which never happened before.
Also, I am a tax professional and spent most part of my day in front of laptop screen and I start having trouble for looking at screen for more than 10 mins, my eyes starts getting heavier. There is constant pain and uneasiness on left eye and left side of head at reduced level (if 10 is severe pain than it’s at 1-2).
I consulted eye specialist who suggest it is early sign of Migraine disease and recommended have one of Sibelium tablet daily, see attached prescription and also recommend for through eye test which I am going ahead with.
My whole concern is if this pain is relative to cold, as when I sneeze out in morning to clear my nostrils there is tremendous pressure on head nerves especially on left side of head. I wanted to be sure that none of head nerves are not blocked due to cold.
Also, I wanted to take second opinion if agree with doctor for Migraine diagnosis. Please feel free if there are any questions.

Thank you doctor! I appreciate your help. I have few follow up questions.
1. What are the cause of migraine? there is no family history of this or any other diseases. My dad was in XXXXXXX army and still leading healthy life at age of 63 without any kind medication and same is of my mother, no medical history as such.
2. Is migraine curable and how long I have to be on medication? Are there any side effects for Sibelium tablet for daily doses.
3. Is there any alternative treatment for this, I mean Ayurveda, Yoga etc. I am not medicine person, it gives me feeling of not being well so I wish to avoid daily medicine doses if possible for emotional purposes.
4. should I make any changes to my lifestyle and take any other precautions for speedy recovery?
5. Any other suggestions you would like to offer?
Thanks,
Sandeep XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
The exact cause of migraine is not known.
Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
Thank you for getting back.
1. The exact cause of migraine is not known, however, only 50% of patients give a positive family history of migraine.
2. Migraine is not curable, however, headaches can be prevented. Usually medicines are required for 3-6 months. In some cases, may be longer. Sibelium may cause sleepiness and weight gain in some patients.
3. Please consult a Ayurvedic doctor or yoga specialist, as my knowledge is poor in those subjects.
4. You should ensure regular sleep for 7-8 hours, eat food on time and avoid stress.
Best wishes,
Hope I have answer your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you doctor for quick response!
I will continue with Sibelium 5mg as prescribed to me by doctor daily 1 tablet before going to bed.
Can you please recommend any medicine for sudden pain or when pain is in initial stage or should I Sibelium when pain starts and avoid the evening dose?
Thanks,
