Are Sharp Pain On Right Side Of Upper Scalp A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Tue, 12 Apr 2016
Question: I rarely get headaches and have never had a migraine. About nine hours ago I started having intermittent sharp pains on right side of my upper scalp out of nowhere. When I touch my scalp it is very tender. I thought it would stop but it has continued into the evening. I am becoming very concerned.

Brief Answer:
Could be stress headache v/s occipital neuralgia

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for getting back with the answers. I have gone through them. Differential diagnosis in your case includes tension Headache, Occipital neuralgia & migraine. Soreness of scalp favors the possibility of neuralgia but in this case history should be chronic. We will first go with common cause management. If condition does not improves then we can proceed further to rule out other causes. If i were your treating doctor then i would have advised following measures:

- Acetaminophen thrice a day.
- Apply hot compression over head. It will give soothing effect.
- take adequate rest of 5-7 days.
- avoid performing sternous activity.

Hopefully you will see improvement in 1-2 days BUT if condition remains same or aggravates then you need to visit hospital for further workup.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
