Are Sore Throat And Tingling Sensation In Throat Signs Of HIV?

Question: A few nights ago I was drinking with a friend and after we departed I ended going to another bar in the hotel I was staying at. I was talking to another guy there while drinking a beer and I got up to use the bathroom. When I came back I took another few drinks of my beer and got extremely dizzy and disoriented. The guy who I was talking to said he would take me to my room. While he was helping me i felt he was groping me and at one point I thought he was trying to kiss me. The next thing I know I wake up in my room the next morning with no idea what had happened. I think I was taken advantage of. I am starting to get a slight sore throat and I have a tingling or slight burning sensation on my tongue and lips. Is this something I need to worry about? By the way, I'm a guy.

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

If you had an unprotected sex with an infected person or of unknown status you should be worry about HIV infection.

Early symptoms can appear at any time but mostly within 2-3 weeks after exposure. Some people do not experience any symptoms. You may feel sore throat, fatigue, fever or headache. Please note that these symptoms are very common and can be caused by other illnesses.

I suggest you to have an HIV test within 3 months of your possible exposure to HIV and next you should be retested 3 months after that first test. If both will be negative you are not HIV infected.

Understood. I guess the real question is, are there any STDS that could cause those types of symptoms? As I'm researching the internet I see a lot of people with the same symptoms and a common prognosis is possible HPV1, which to my knowledge most people have that and it can be brought on because of multiple reasons. I've been under stress, I was in Hawaii, and got a sunburn so that could add to the symptoms as well as a lack of sleep

Chlamydia and gonorrhea can cause sore throat.

Detailed Answer:

I guess you mean HSV1 (oral herpes). Yes it is possible you could get an HSV1. Your symptoms should go away without treatment in 2 weeks.

Chlamydia and gonorrhea can also cause sore throat. In this situation you should have a swab test from your throat.

Please note that STDs often have no signs so I suggest you to make an urine test to rule out infection. Also you should have an HIV test.
