Are The Sudden Onset Of Pain In The Head, Productive Cough And Vomiting Of Food Due To A Serious Concern?
Question: My husband has had sudden onset of headpain . He never gets headaches typically. He feels sleepy . His symptoms began w allergy problems due to cottonwood pollen at unusually high levels. We originally Thought ..he was having sinuous headache. He was coughing up mucous & couldn't keep food down. Said he had no appetite.he has been on bed rest for past 3 days. I am concerned he may have had an aneurysm that pressure increase in head is causing headache . No obvious change in vision but he is acting very subdued not talking much but lucid.
Brief Answer:
Aneurysm are mostly asymptomatic
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome,
I appreciate your concern
If an aneurysm is large enough to have a mass effect then it can present with ptosis, visual changes, a dilated pupil , painful eye and paresthesia or weakness on one side of the face or body.
However, a non ruptured aneurysm in most cases , is usually asymptomatic.
A neurological exam is required. If there are definite mental status changes or a focal neurological deficit then workup should start with a CT brain without contrast.
Thanks
Wishing you best of health
