Question: Are there anti seizure drugs that help avoid seizures while tapering off depakene in a non epileptic patient who was prescribed depakene? Thanks.

Brief Answer: Taper off the depakene gradually Detailed Answer: There is thumb rule to decrease the dose of depakene 20-25% weekly while tapering it off. If the person is not having seizure disorder/ epilepsy the patient would not have seizure if the thumb rule is followed. Replacing it with any other seizure controlling drug would not solve any purpose because that drug would also need tapering.

Is there a study or stats showing that if the drug is tapered gradually as per the thumb rule then in an antiepileptic the seizure side effect is very low. Thanks.
