Are There Any Alternative Medication For Olfen Gel?

Posted on Wed, 22 Aug 2018
Question: Dr. Noble XXXXXXX
My only problem has been finding the olfen gel. My daughter, a nurse, contacted the HyVee pharmacy near Des Moines and was told I cannot get the gel over the counter because it has an ingredient that requires a doctor's prescription. Any alternatives. My legs are still weak, but the blood sugar is below 200 now.

Brief Answer:
OTC topical application containing Salicylate or Capsaicin.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Welcome back.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

You can use any locally available topical application containing salicylate or capsaicin as these would give relief. The pharmacist would help you as what OTC product is available there.

Bengay pain relieving cream or Walgreen's Capsaicin cream are examples.

Hope you will get better soon.

Do let me know if you have further queries.

Have a good day.
