Are There Any Other Options I Have To Keep Urine Flow Going Without Causing ED?

Question: I have BPH for about 6 years. I have been taking avodart and alfuzosin and things are ok. If I take avodart more than twice a week, it creates ED. But twice a week avodart is not enough for urinary symptoms.
1) Does betasitosterol help reduce prostate swelling.
2)Can I try taking a prostate natural formula containing beta sito sterol on five days when I do not take avodart. I will keep taking alfuzosin daily.
3)I have been taking avodart and alfuzosin for more than 5 years. Can they cause other problems.
4)Are there any other options I have to keep urine flow going without causing ED.

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been takin Avodart and Alfuzosin for BEP since last 5 years and facing problem of ED .

I shall be happy if you can post me more details to help me in making precise comments and suggestions .

1) Have you done Ultrasound Scanning of abdoemn to assess size of the Prostate and volume of Post Void Urine Residue.(PVR)? if so upload reports.
2) What is your Serum PSA ?
3) Are you Diabetic or Hypertensive?

Avodart(Dutasteride ) is known to have side effect of loss of libido and Erectile Dysfinction (ED).
These drugs like Dutasteride and alpha Blockers normally being prescribed for BEP do cause side effects of erectile dysfunction .

The drugs that have mentioned have no basis of any clinical trials about their efficacy .

Start taking Cialis (Tadalafil) 5 mg once daily and take 10 mg on the day one hour before planned sexual activity .

This will take care of ED .

Thank you for your response.
More than a year back, PVR was done. It was ok. I did not have it recently due to covid risk. My urinary situation has not changed.
PSA is 0.3.
I do not have diabetis at all. Blood pressure is good without medication. No cardiovascular issues.
I had tried cialis 5 mg daily but it keeps my system aroused all the time.
Now I do take Cialis 3 pills each 5 mg on day of sexual activity. It works fine if I am on avodart twice a week. Once I go to three times a week, it is not enough. Pls advise.

Thanks for writing again .
Since BEP is a progressive disease ,in proven BEP patient with moderate sized prostate gland recomonded dose of Avodart is 0.5 mg daily to keep the growth of the prostate under control .There is no alternate medication for Dutasteride.

You can reduce the dose of Cialis to 2.5 mg daily and take 5 mg on the day of planned sex.

Are there any other significant health issues by taking avodart and alfuzosin for say 10 years. I have been already taking them for 6 years.
