Are There Any Side Effects CBD While On Antidepressants ?

Taking CBD while on antidepressants (citalopram). Some say it’s ok and some say it’s not. I have had a little bit before and didn’t get any side effects but not sure if I keep taking them together if there will be a problem?
CBD can slow the metabolism of citalopram
Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'. There is a moderate level interaction between CBD and Citalopram. The enzymes that breakdown citalopram are the same are the same ones that breakdown CBD, and so using both of these drugs together can lead to increased levels of Citalopram. Taking CBD every once in a while would likely not cause any problems, but if you use CBD regularly, it may lead to increased levels of serotonin, which can sometimes lead to serious problems. If you do need to use CBD regularly, one option might be to use a smaller dose of Citalopram, but the safest thing would probably be to not use CBD regularly if you don't need to.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions about any of that, And I would be glad to discuss it with you further.

Been struggling with marijuana withdrawals.
I’m on a small dose of Valium a day as well at the moment. So it would be ok if I occasionally had some CBD? Just not everyday?
The safest course would be to avoid CBD
Detailed Answer:
The dose you are on is the maximum dose, so my recommendation would be to avoid CBD if possible, as it is hard to say how much might cause problems. Valium also has a relatively minor interaction with citalopram and can also increase levels of that medication, so that would be another reason to be careful. However, that being said, if you used it once or twice a week, most likely you would be fine. If you started having any symptoms such as sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, tremor, or fever, you should stop both medications and be seen by your doctor as soon as possible.
Please let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help any way I can.

I been feeling very nauseous as well.
What thought I was far enough past the withdrawals for that to go away.
Been taking a bit of maxolon the last week and a half but don’t find much benefit. Can this make my condition worse? Is it ok to just stop taking it if it’s just been a couple of weeks I been taking it?

Sorry, can you clarify?
Detailed Answer:
Sorry, Do you mean withdrawals to CBD? Are you asking if stopping the maxolon can make your condition worse? If so, stopping maxolon should not cause any problems, nor do you need to slowly taper that medication, you can just stop it.
Let me know if you had another question or still have any questions.

Can CBD give you withdrawals?

Marijuana withdrawal could include nausea
Detailed Answer:
While nausea isn't listed as a common symptom of marijuana withdrawal, vomiting can happen after withdrawing from marijuana, so I would think nausea could also be a symptom, and especially if you get relief with CBD, I would suspect it is related to the marijuana withdrawal. Chronic CBD use could lead to dependence and withdrawal when you stop, but occasional use should not lead to any withdrawal symptoms.
Please let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help any way I can.

I haven’t had CBD for about 5 days now. Today is the first day I’m starting to feel better, and actually feel like eating. Also when I was getting worse early last week my normal GP was away and I spoke to another doctor who gave me Orphenadrine. I later found out that I should not have been given this for anxiety and gradually over the next few days I was really bad. Did the Orphenadrine make my symptoms more intense you think. Stopped it 4 days ago and have gotten a lot better since. Is this right I should not have been given this and what made me worse as well?
You may have had side effects from the Orphenadrine
Detailed Answer:
I am not very familiar with orphenadine, as we don't use this medication in my country. But from what I have been able to learn, it does have many possible side effects, including dizziness, weakness, and GI effects. So while it is hard to say for sure whether your symptoms were due to withdrawal or the orphenadine, I suspect it may have been a combination of the two. I agree with stopping the orphenadine and it sounds like he may be passed the worst of this already. I hope that your symptoms continue to improve.
Please let me know if you have any other questions, I would be glad to help any way I can.
