Are There Any Warning Signs To Be Conscious About While Experiencing Slight Nose Bleeding?
About 2 hours ago, I went down a water slide that is part of a public pool in Cabo, Mexico (I am from the US). When I hit the water, the force caused water to shoot straight up my nose. It immediately burned my nose and throat that has persisted. It caused some small bleeding in my nostril. I still feel inflamed in my nose even now.
I’m mostly concerned if any bacteria or other pathogen in the pool would cause me illness this way. It does seem like a well cleaned pool, but I am wondering what my risks are for contracting any illness, if any.
Are there any warning signs to be conscious about? Is there any way at this point to reduce risk of contracting anything? Am I just worrying?
Irritation of the nerve endings inside the nose...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
First of all, I would like to reassure you that this is completely normal and I doubt you would have contracted any infection, as the pool was absolutely clean.
Normally when the water enters into our nasal cavity there will be some irritation inside the nose. This is due to the presence of abundant nerve receptors which get irritated by the presence of a foreign body inside the nasal cavity. The irritation is more when the water from the swimming pool enters the nose, because of the increased chlorine content in the water.
Do not worry! The irritation is going to subside gradually. Drink frequent sips of warm water; do not blow your nose forcefully or use wipes inside the nose.
Hope this answers your query; I will be available for the follow-up queries.
