Are Three Doses Of Booster Vaccine Required For Petting A Cat With A Wounded Forefinger?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi,
I took rabivax vaccine today for a non bite exposure.. i have already taken post exposure prophylaxis before 4 years...i patted a cat without realising that i had a wound in my forefinger and i didnt want to take chances so i went in for booster vaccine.. my doc is recommending 3 doses of vaccine.. only 2 are needed right? . Im a breastfeeding mother.. will the vaccine pass through breastmilk. My daughter is 19 months old. She also had 4 doses of rabipur vaccine before 6 months for non bite exposure.. Rabipur is purified chick cell vaccine and rabivax is purified vero cell vaccine.. if it passes through breastmilk will it have adverse effects on my daughter? Is rabivax from a reputed manufacturer?

Brief Answer:
No need to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
3 doses are to be taken. You need not worry. Even if you are breast feeding and even if antibodies pass through breast milk, it would have a rather protective effect and would not be harmful to the child.
The vaccine is from a reputed manufacturer/distributor and you need not worry.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

The second dose should be on day 3 n third on day 7 right?
I would be travelling on day 3.. can i take tge second dose on day 2 instead?
I have got another silly worry.. after i handed over the vaccine to the nurse.. she asked me to sit in a separate room and then brought the injection to me.. i usually check if nurses are using new needles but this time i overlooked it.. now am worried about the repurcussions of her using the old needle and some other medicine.. what if the used needle was of someone who is hiv or hepatitis positive? What are my chances of catching it? What blood tests should i take to make sure i havent caught any infectious disease? Im a paranoid person whom lives in constant fear.. how to ease my mind..

Hello,
Taking the second dose on day 2 should not be a problem.
You can rest assured that the nurses are trained to maintain asepsis and therefore it is very unlikely that they would use reused syringes or needles.
I do not suppose that there is any reason to worry about contaminated needles.
In case you want to get tested, it would not be advisable to test immediately.
You can test for HIV, HBV and HCV serology tests. But unless they are negative at 10-14 weeks, a negative result will not indicate anything.

I have one last question.. is formite transmission fo rabies possible.. yesterday i took my 19 months old daughter to a park where she was playing on a slide.. she has a small open wound in her leg.. is the following scenario practically possible? A rabid dog drools on a slide and when my daughter was sliding, her open wound comes in contact with the saliva and she catches rabies.. what is a open wound and what is a healed wound...the wound is not bleeding though.. do u think transmission like this is possible.. though i did not notice a dog nearby am just being worried if at this can transmit rabies... she has already been vaccinated with 4 doses before 6 months...
