Are Weird Sensations On The Penis A Side Effect Of Doxycycline?
Question: hi, for the past few weeks i've had odd sensation sin my penis. it started as a feeling of tightness in the urethra so my doctor ran a yrine check. it tested negative for sti's but the white blood cell count was a bit above XXXXXXX so he first prescribe azyromicyn which didnt work, then doxcycyline for a week. the tightness has gone but im getting these occasional 'ping' sensations in the tip of my penis. i had a similar reaction to ciprocylin several years ago so im wondering if its the same thing?
i 'think' the main infection may have gone, however i still seem to be getting the odd pinching sensation in the head. Saturday it was very noticeable but has decreased over the past few days a bit. years ago i had a similar situation when i was on a long course of ciproflaxin (to treat a testicular cyst). i was wondering if doxycyclin has a reported side effect thats similar or is this the infection still lingering?

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have inflammation of Urethra and was prescribed Erythromycin and Doxicycline ,though tightening sensation in urethra has resolved you still have pinching in Urethral Meatus.
I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Was your urine culture done before you were prescribed antibiotic ?.
This is mostly due to some residual infection remained in urethra which should get cured with appropriate antibiotic as per culture report and anti inflammatory drug like Diclofenac for a week.
If problem persist you may need to consult qualified Urologist for endoscopic examination of urethral passage (Cysto -Urethroscopy).
