Question: As advised I went to see the GP with my strange symptoms. I am not sure if my last questions to the two specialist are shown as the discussions have been closed and rated. should I repeat my initial symptoms or can you see the history?

I am sorry, I though you had access to my former queries with this issue. I had unpleasant cramping in my right calf and thigh starting two months ago. I thought it could be thyroid related so went to the GP he took bloods and levels were low, increased levothyroxine form 25mg to 75 mg 4 weeks ago. Cramps still there albeit not as frequent. Now have bubbling fluttering , twitching sensation in same calf and thigh. Asked if it could be related. Googled and got really worried when I saw ALS/MND. so asked a neurologist on here who said unlikely . Went back to GP yesterday who tested my back and muscles, gave me a prescription for quinine and said this cannot be related to thyroid or meds and it is just one of those things and I should wait for it to disappear!! No even more worried that it could be ALS/MND instead of feeling better about. I don't want to be irrational but really got no reassurance.

Brief Answer:
Thyroid probably is not related to your symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again
I appologise for the late reply.

Muscle weakness, aches, and cramping are common in people with hypothyroidism.
Treatment with the thyroid hormone replacement medication(levothyroxine) can usually improve muscle symptoms like cramps and stiffness, although this improvement may take weeks.

In your case, considering that your muscle cramps ,fluttering and twitching are only in the right leg(unilateral),in my opinion, this is not related to the thyroid.

It is more probable that the cause is neurological, inadequate blood supply or mineral depletion.
Compression of nerves in your spine (lumbar stenosis),arteriosclerosis of the extremities or even too little potassium, calcium or magnesium in your diet can be potential causes that can explain your symptoms.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/motor neuron disease can cause cramps but i don't think this is your diagnosis.

An EMG test of the right leg, creatine kinaze test, CT or MRI scans to look for herniated disks,a CT angiography of right leg and electrolite tests(potassium, calcium, magnesium) are neccessary to deduct the right diagnosis.

Meantime i advice to Drink plenty of liquids every day(to avoid dehydration) and Stretch your muscles. This can prevent or ease your symptoms.

Hope i have answered to your questions.
Wish you good health.
