As Of Last Week, I Started To Feel A Bit

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Nov 2020
Question: As of last week, I started to feel a bit dizzy and lightheadness with the sudden onset of what felt like an anxiety attack. I took it easy the rest of the night and for the next few days I felt pretty good with the exception of what felt like constant pressure around the back of my head, temples, and below my ears. On Thursday (yesterday), I had another bout of dizziness after going for a run, and I then had a full on panic/anxiety attack where my arms went numb and my mind was racing with feelings of impending doom etc. I panicked and called an ambulance and they took an ekg which appeared fine. I had my parents drive me to the ER just in case and they did a CT scan, chest Xray, and bloodwork with all appearing normal (somewhat low relative lymphocytes). I do have a history of hypothyrodism, but my levels looked normal and this really only happened last week. I'm wondering if the sudden onset of something like MS or even something like COVID could cause these symptoms. I have no allergies nor any history of anxiety. I'm 29, healthy, and I exercise regularly. My lingering symptoms are that I have pressure in the back of my head, around my temples, and a warm sensation in my forehead (in addition to some slight dizziness).

Brief Answer:
Probably an anxiety attack

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms seem to be related to an anxiety attack.
Covid 19 does not commonly cause these symptoms.
This situation can happen to any person at one point in life.
I already reviewed the examinations that you have already done. The examinations exclude many possible diagnoses.
I recommend to use an anxiolytic such as Diazepam to relieve the symptoms.
I also suggest to follow a healthy lifestyle.
I recommend to avoid caffeine and alcohol.
I also suggest to sleep well, eat healthy and exercise daily.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards!

Thank you! I have no history of anxiety though and it seems to have all started last week when I had a minor episode of dizziness, anxiety, and pins/needles feeling. The lasting feelings I have continued to have in the last week include pressure around my head and back of skull, some slight dizziness/balance issues, pins/needles in hands/feet, and occasional anxiety. It feels like it is all stemming from my head having this pressure. Is it possible there is something neurological that the CT scan missed? Or something to do with my inner ear?

Brief Answer:
Neurological issue should be evaluated by a MRI

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

The pins and needles symptom can be related to a neurological issue which can be evaluated by an MRI and a visit to a neurologist.
So, if the symptoms continue, I suggest to do an MRI for further evaluation.
I also recommend a visit at an ENT specialist to exclude possible inner ear issue.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards!
