At Age 95 Will Pelvis Fracture Heal Without Surgery
Question: My mother will be 95 years old in Feb. 2024. She has osteoporosis, and fell down getting out of bed a month ago. She fractured her pelvis in two places. She has been unable to walk since -other than a couple steps to transfer from wheelchair to bed or to the bathroom toilet. Before this she was quite able to walk up and down stairs, pedal a stationary bike, walk a half mile. Her doctor says there is no surgery to do; she should just stay in place and let the bones heal. I was wondering - what are the odds that a person that old can really heal the fractures? Your opinion on whether pelvis fractures will heal in a woman of that age? Thank youl.
Brief Answer:
Surgery not recommended
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think undergoing surgery is very dangerous at this age.
It will gradually heal on its own. It may require 3 months to heal but it will heal.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.
