Brief Answer:
You should be seen at a hospital urgently

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. With just the information you have provided, it sounds like you may be anemic from blood loss, and this would be enough of a reason to be seen in an ER or hospital as soon as possible to check your blood levels and possibly get a blood transfusion. They can then do further examinations to determine what the cause of the bleeding is.

Otherwise, if you can give me more information, such as whether the blood is red, whether it is mixed in with your stools or not, do you have a fever or diarrhea, and how long this has been going on, I can try to give a better idea of what is going on, but I would not let this delay you from seeking help right away.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions about any of that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.

Brief Answer:
IBS does not have blood in the stools

Detailed Answer:
If you are having blood in your stools, then IBS could not be the only thing going on. Have you had a hemoccult done that confirms that there is blood in your stools? Does your GP agree that you have blood in your stools, or do they not believe that?

Brief Answer:
Are you sure there is blood in your stools?

Detailed Answer:
The first thing I would do is confirm that there is blood in your stools. This can be done with a hemoccult, and so I would ask your doctor if they can do this. This should help guide any further testing. If the hemoccult is positive, then a colonoscopy would be the next stop. If the hemoccult is negative, then IBS may be more likely, though with all the diarrhea that you describe, I think getting a colonoscopy would still be reasonable.

Are you having any fevers? Have you traveled anywhere recently? Have you had your stool tested for parasites?

Brief Answer:
Discuss further testing with your doctor

Detailed Answer:
I would recommend discussing this further testing, including a hemoccult, and testing for ova and parasites, with your doctor. Especially with your reports of blood diarrhea like this, I think those tests would be reasonable. If your doctor doesn't agree, I would ask what the reasons are, and if you would like to let me know what they say, it may help me to understand what is going on better. Another suggestion would be getting a second opinion from another doctor to see if they would do further work up for you to make sure nothing else is going on.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help any way I can.

Brief Answer:
At least they are doing further work up

Detailed Answer:
If you are having red blood in your stools, I don't think it could be a bleeding stomach ulcer, since those would normally cause your stools to be black and sticky, unless you were having a lot of bleeding, which it sounds like you couldn't have too much if you have had the bleeding for 2 months and your blood levels were not low. But at least they are doing something. I would suggest asking them why they think it is coming from the stomach and not the intestines, and whether a colonoscopy would be a better step. But if they do the scope to look at your stomach, at least hopefully they would do colonoscopy as the next step if they don't see anything.
