Question: Blood test for pre-wedding purpose:

Boy ( 29 Yrs ) : "Consistent with Beta Thalassamia Carrier State". Hb 12.5, RBC 7.08, MCV 61.9, MCH 17.7, RDW 17.3, HbF 0.4%, HbA2 5.3%,

Girl ( 27 Yrs ) : "Chromatogram does not reveal any evidence of Beta Thalassaemia or Haemoglobinopathy and their carrier state". Hb 14.0, RBC 4.60, MCV 98.3, MCH 30.4, RDW 13.9, HbF 0.7%, HbA2 2.8%

Dear Doctor,

Please advise the suitablity of this marriage negotiation. Is it ok with proceeding for a happy marriage life?

The only problem that thalssemia carriers experience is mild anemia,
In this case 12.5 is quite normal and no treatment is required.
If the hemoglobin falls below 11, he can take iron suppliments.
Include more iron rich foods like green leafy vegetables in his diet.
