Question: My grandmother fell and hit her head last last night. SHe has a bump on her head but was fine last night and not in any pain. The swelling went down with ice packs. This morning when she woke up she had black eyes. Why is it she has black eyes now,

Hello and thanks for query.
Black eyes resulting from head injury is very common and generally doesn't denote any seriousness.
It occurs because of collection of blood around eyes since area around eyes is very loose and it is easy for blood to collect there.
This blackness generally deepens over couple of days and then gradually fades away.
The following situations may however signify seriousness and demand medical intervention and hospital admission
Double vision
Increase of headache
Discharge from swelling
Oozing of blood from nose or ears
Loss of consciousness
Nausea or vomiting
Any change in behavior

If nothing of these things happen and color starts fading then you don't have to worry.
