CLast Sunday I Fell And Got A Bruise And Goose

Question: CLast Sunday I fell and got a bruise and goose egg on my elbow. I waited a few days and saw my primary care doctor. They ordered a x-ray of the elbow. No fractures or breaks were seen.
It's been a week and the injury still hurts. I have some tingling and numbness in my fingers.
Is this normal or not?
I am taking naproxen, using a sling, ice to the injury about 20 minutes on and 20 off.
Is there anything else I should do or is this a time thing.
Approximately, how much longer should this take to heal? Recommendations?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Ulnar nerve entrapped by swelling due to injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear , welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think these symptoms are caused by the compression of ulnar nerve. The inflammation is happening in the elbow and the joint is swollen causing an entrapped nerve.
The ulnar nerve is compressed causing tingling, numbness and pain.
You are treating it in right way, with naproxen, ice, rest and elevation.
You can use an elbow pad to reduce pressure on joint.
You also can use a brace to keep joint straight especially at night.
This situation may last for about a month.
It will get better with time.
Hope I have answered the question.
