CT Scan Shows Fatty Liver, Raised ALT Level. Will It Cause Problems In Pregnancy?
Question: I have a fatty liver diagnosed on ct scan. My alt level is only marginally raised at 66 at it's highest. I am trying for a pregnancy and wonder of fatty liver with mildly elevated alt would cause problems. My father passed away from cirrhosis so it does concern me that my condition may develop into that, however he did drink alcohol. I don't drink, am a little overweight and trying to lose it, exercise and don't drink alcohol. How often should my bloods be monitored and should my lipids be checked for high triglcyerides?
Hello, XXXXXXX
I can assure you that your situation is like your dad's.
He was an alcoholic wnd developed cirrhosis which is
very unfortunate. In your case, you are slightly overt weight
and you can certainly working on losing weight.Try to avoid
fatty foods as much as you can and eat a high protein diet.
Very lean meats once a week, more of fish and poultry.
You may want to reduce your triglyceride leverls. Taking
Nicotinic acid vitamin supplements are helpful.
Your blood tets can be monitored every 3 months.
I am confident that you are on the right track and you
will be able to be pregnant and have a very healthy baby.
Good luck and wish you well.

Thank you for your reply. My dad drank little alcohol but I think that along with poor diet resulted in his diagnosis of cirrhosis. I was thinking of trying milk thistle and ginger as I had read these can help the liver and reverse the fatty liver. Is this correct? I have not had my lipid profile checked, should I ask my GP to test my cholesterol levels? Is my cholesterol likely to be raised? I had read about fatty liver being serious at third trimester. Are there steps to take to avoid this of possible.
How long on average does or can it take for the reversal of fatty liver disease

Hi! XXXXXXX,
Glad you read my note.Yes, definitely have our lipid
profile. Most often the triglyceride levels are higher.
The condition is called "Metabolic Syundrome".
This may be associated with diabetes Needb to check
your blood sugar as well.
Milk thistle has been used as an adjuvant treatment.
It can help although we don't have good controlled
studies to prove the benefits.
Fatty liver will get better if you do the right things.
I would give about 3-6 months.
Also, I would recommend Vit.E 800 i.u.daily.
Wish you well.
