Can Actalin Be Taken Instead Of Levothyroxine?
Question: I am taking levothyroxine for hypothyroidism. Is it okay to take actalin instead of or in addition to?
Brief Answer:
Thyroid
Detailed Answer:
I see your question is whether actalin can be taken instead of or in addition to levothyroxine for hypothyroidism.
The latest thyroid guidelines have reinforced the recommendation that levothyroxine alone is sufficient for the treatment of hypothyroidism. That answers the 'instead of' question.
Regarding the 'in addition to' part, may I assume you are asking if there are any potential adverse interactions between the two that prevent safe use of either.
I would first like to know the exact ingredients of actalin please

Detailed Answer:
Yes thank you.
I see it specifically does not contain calcium or iron which are very well known to hamper the absorption of levothyroxine. It would then appear that this has no major interference with levothyroxine. However I would still prefer this be taken 30 to 60 minutes after levothyroxine, because the latter must be taken in this way with water, to avoid reduction in it's optimal absorption from the gut
