Brief Answer:
Yes it is safe to take. Side effects minimal

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
A Vitamin D level of 17.1 is just below lower range of normal values.
For that purpose, oral vitamin D in form of arachitol of 60000 IU is adequate for you to recover the deficiency.
It is one of the commonly used medications for vit D deficiency and is safe for use.
The only side effects you will have will be nausea, constipation and sometime abdominal cramps but it will be for short while. Once your levels are well in range, the medication will be withdrawn.
Another natural remedy for replenishing Vitamin D is good amount of exposure to sunlight. The skin will naturally produce vit D after exposed to UV lights of sun which produces 90% of vit D in human body.
Try to be in sunlight in noon time for 10-15 mins every day. It will help you get better faster.
I hope I answered your question satisfactorily. If you have any more query kindly write back to me, will be happy to help you out.
Thank you.
