Can Aspirin And Birth Control Pills Be Taken Together?
Aspirin is not indicated for this indication.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I appreciate your query here.
But no one prescribes aspirin as a prophylaxis with OCPs, to prevent clot formation.
There are no research studies on this issue. But in my opinion, it due to different mechanisms involved. I will explain it to you:
Aspirin is helpful is that it inhibits platelet plug formation. Like the patients with atherosclerosis, they have a problem with platelet plugs.
On the other hand, women on oral contraceptives do not have a problem with platelet plugs, and instead have a problem with DVT (deep vein thrombosis) which is not strongly related to the activity of platelets, but instead, clotting factor proteins.
Probably, That is why, aspirin is not indicated with OCPs to prevent clot formation.
Hope this is of some help to you.
Thanks.
