Can Azithromycin Cause Sensitivity To Light?
Question: Does azithromycin cause sun sensitivity? If so, for how long after finishing the antibiotic does this last?
Brief Answer:
in most cases, resolves with the completion of the course.
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Azithromycin can cause sensitivity to light but it is a rare effect occurring in approximately 0.1% to 1% ( 1 of 100 to 1000) persons who use the medication.
The use of sun protection would decrease the effect. If an effect still occurs then the use of cool compresses to the skin along with topical steroids such as hydrocortisone, would help.
In most persons, if photosensitivity occurs, it decreases when the medication is stopped.
Rarely it can take weeks to months to resolve.
