Brief Answer:
Benadryl won't stop wheezing

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Is this the first time you have had wheezing? It may be due to allergic asthma, or if you are not having other signs of allergies, and if the wheezing is new for you, it may be due to something else.

Depending on the cause, there are different treatments. If it is allergic asthma, the treatment for wheezing is an inhaled bronchodilator such as albuterol. This is by prescription. If you have never been diagnosed with asthma before, you should go in to be seen to be diagnosed. Depending on the severity of your wheezing and shortness of breath, you may need to go to the ER. If you have never been diagnosed with asthma, go to the ER tonight.

Benadryl will not stop wheezing. It is an antihistamine that can decrease itchiness, and runny sneezy nose, but it won't help asthmatic wheezing. However if you are having an all over allergic reaction, then Benadryl would be good to take - but it will not make the wheezing go away.

So I think it would be best for you to go to the ER, especially if this wheezing is new.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
