Betamethasone is topical steroid rather than a topical antifungal. Though, being a steroid, it would reduce redness and itching, it would certainly encourage fungal infection to spread/ extend.
It would be better if you use a topical plain antifungal e.g otc clotrimazole 1% cream, twice daily for 2-4 weeks. You may also take a tablet of cetrizine 10mg once daily for symptomatic relief from itching.
